  •  We Have Stock
  • Double Jellyfish
  • Nautilus Lidded
  • Facebook

Happy New Year from all of us at Satava Art Glass.  First we would like to thank you for a wonderful past year.  Secondly we are back from our holiday vacation and in the hot shop making jellyfish.  We are getting our shelves stocked again and catching up on orders.  Again thank you for the past year and we look forward to continuing to provide you with beautiful art glass in 2011.

We Have Stock
Jellyfish, Vases, Paperweights

As stated above we are hard at work stocking up.  We are currently well supplied in most jellyfish sizes, including our ever popular minis.

We also have a great supply of mini petroglyph baskets, as well as, all the rocks, weights and caves to go with them.  On top of that we have never had so many nautilus paperweights to choose from.  It is like we literally have a sea of them here at the studio.

We will be updating our website soon to reflect our inventory.  The galleries that represent us are also calling orders in everyday and are stocking up for the New Year.  Please check out our galleries link on our website to see who near you represents us.

Double Jellyfish
One Is Good, Two Is Even Better

We also have a great supply of Double Jellyfish at this time.  On top of that most are the combination variety, that everyone loves so very well.  If one can't choose between a Gold Ruby or a Passion Moon, you don't have to, here they are together in intertwining harmony.  Though we don't make them with the Moon dome color, we do make them with the other four dome colors.  Always a show stopper piece.

Nautilus Lidded
Beautiful Nautilus on Golden Background

Before we closed down the studio at the end of December for vacation Rick and the guys made quite a few of the splendid Plum Nautilus on Gold Lidded vessels.  With it's golden honey colors and brown accents, an elegant soft toned nautilus, all topped off with a Gold Ruby Jellyfish lid, together it makes  a perfectly fabulous combination.  Truly Stunning.

Catch Up On Daily Happenings at Satava's
Venturing into Facebook just a few months ago has been a very fun and interesting journey.  It has been a great way for us to talk with collectors, galleries and customers.  Our numbers may not be huge, but we are adding new followers every week.  Full of pictures of what we are currently making to photos of the guys working out in the studio, it has a little for everyone.  We love the fact that many of our contacts are already on there and send us occasional thoughts and comments.  Please check us out when you get a chance, and if you like what you see, please give us a thumbs up.

November 2010 Retail Newsletter: Tis The Season To Play With New Ideas

Rick has been back in the studio the last month, playing with new colors and images.  In particular he has really been working with the Nautilus Lidded design to make a softer, light plum colored nautilus shell that really ties in with the Gold Ruby Jellyfish lids that he has been putting together to complete the look.  Also the Petroglyph Baskets have really taken off and he has been incorporating new images, with the fish being the most recent.  We are very excited about the flow of these new images.

Baskets:  Small $300, Medium $600 - 1200, Large $1400 - $2000

With the holidays around the corner we are doing our best to stock up on all of our most popular designs.  We will be working on our website, as well as, getting orders to our many accounts across the United States, so please check out your local gallery this season and see our work in person.   Right now we have a good supply of:

Petroglyph Baskets (See Above), Rocks $250, Paperweights $220, and we even have a few Caves $500 too.

Nautilus Paperweights $250

Iris Vases $1600 - $2400

Harvest Moon Vases (Blue with Red Interior, Always a favorite)  $800 - $2000

We have also been constantly updating our facebook page and would love it if you could check it out under Satava Art Glass, Richard Satava.  Some recent posts (which include all of the images you see below) have included photos of the crew working, images of new designs, pictures of new batches of work that literally just got pulled out of the annealing oven, discussions about older pieces, comments on frequently asked questions by customers and gallery owners, and the list goes on.  If it has to do with art glass, and our work in particular, we are discussing it.  Facebook has been a lot of fun to do and we are very excited about the interaction we regularly have with others interested in our work.

October 2010 Retail Newsletter: The Jellyfish Sideswimmer

The first incarnation of the current Jellyfish Sideswimmer shows up in 2002 in both an egg form and standard paperweight shape.  By 2003 the egg form was stunningly transformed into a lid topping off a beautifully detailed nautilus vessel in our newly created Nautilus Lidded design.  It was during the following year, in 2004, that the egg shape gradually began to be used only in the Nautilus Lidded pieces, leaving just the paperweight shape for individual sale.  It was also at this time that the name “Jellyfish Sideswimmer” came into existence.

The next year the Sea Anemone Paperweight was created and the first one shipped out in February 2005.  These had a single large sea anemone set on a sandy bottom and had names like Rose, Strawberry, Sunburst, Plum and Blue.  Eventually the design ran it’s course and the studio stopped producing them by the end of that year, but the idea really stuck with Rick and he quickly realized what a perfect addition they would be for the jellyfish Sideswimmer, if they were made into a smaller, compact size.

By 2005 the Jellyfish Sideswimmers were still just a jellyfish swimming sideways in a clear paperweight.  It was in the last few months of that year their current form really came together.    By adding a sandy bottom, barnacles and finally the smaller sea anemones, then making the whole piece larger, the Jellyfish Sideswimmer was fully realized and became the intricately detailed piece we know today.
News From Satava Art Glass:  On October 9th two of our glassblowers, Mark Del Fava and Wyatt Campbell, are going to be at Sierra Nevada’s Brewing Co.’s Oktoberfest celebration here in Chico.  The event is going on from 4pm to 10pm, near their hop fields in the big tent. There will be a mobile glass blowing studio set up inside.  Our facebook page has been going well and we do  regular updates on it about twice a week.  If you haven’t already checked it out, please do. Lastly we just updated our website again, this time adding a video link.  Currently we have three different videos on there and will add more as new ones are created.

SATAVA ART GLASS September 2010 Retail Newsletter: The Studio Behind the Glass

Many of you know about the history of this studio from our website or written material.  Richard started it back in 1977 originally working within the art nouveau style of the time.  In a few short years he had moved completely way from that and was creating art glass that represented what he saw around him in nature, something that he continues to this day. The studio has always been part of that vision and one can clearly see those influences in the landscaping and architectural style.  He bought the house at 819 Wall St, Chico in 1975, lived here and did art glass out in the back.  Over time he expanded it and eventually moved out making it just a studio by the mid 1980’s.
Today the studio is at the same location, tucked away on the outskirts of downtown and surrounded by beautiful black bamboo, various plants and ivy. The exterior of the charming, older house has recently been painted a nice golden yellow and olive green with white accents. The interior, where the gallery and office are located, has also been recently remodeled, making it feel more like a gallery, but also giving the customer more of a behind the scenes look of a working studio.  In back of the house is a high ceiling, open air glass studio, where when the guys are working there is the constant noise of torches, metal tools, conversation and music.
News From Satava Art Glass:  We are now up and fully running on facebook.  Many of these pictures have already been uploaded to our page under Richard Satava, Satava Art Glass, please look us up.  We hope to keep it updated with glassblowing pictures, new releases and various activities having to do with the studio. Also we have recently updated our website adding more subcategories, additional tune-ups and most notably our own blog.  We are excited about using these new social networking tools to keep better contact with our galleries, customers and collectors.

Satava Art Glass August 2010 Retail Newsletter: The Wonderful World of Jellyfish!

Last newsletter we focused on the new work we were making, so this time we decided to give the spotlight to our most popular design:  The Jellyfish.  Whether a mini, standard, side swimmer or double, these always catch everyone’s eye and interest.
We are always looking to make our jellyfish better.  Whether by the quality of glass we use, our constant investment in our equipment, our continued use of old techniques, as well as, occasional changes to formulas and design set-up to keep things fresh.  As an example earlier this year Rick was working on the formula for the Pacific Coast Jellyfish to make the orange dome more vibrant (many galleries noticed and really liked the change).  We feel that all of these components help to keep our jellyfish distinct and, as always, of the highest quality.
Lastly we started working on a facebook page (look us up in pages under Richard Satava, Satava Art Glass) and we will also be making a few changes here and there on our website.  Thank you for your continued support of our work.
